The year is 1967 and the Vietnam War has taken a terrible toll on America. When a high school senior from California who enlisted in the army is killed, his mother sends her six-year-old son Joey to live with his father in Hawaii. At first, the experience seems great: Dad is finally home from work so they can cook together and play outside with his new friend. But then it becomes clear that Dad’s heart isn't in it—he's just going through the motions while Joey searches for someone to be a real parent to him again. So Joey tries to turn his new friend into one. When Dad leaves, Joey goes back to school and is quickly recruited into class war games that revolve around the food grown in the backyard garden by his teacher (Jada Pinkett Smith) and his neighbor (Juliette Lewis). Soon, though, Joey's defensive game turns offensive as he sneaks out at night to tape posters on fences, threatening his father with violence. And soon after that happens, Dad calls for help—he wants to take Joey away from all this. To survive this war at home, Joey realizes he must figure out who's really in charge because "Brothers don't let their friends fight their battles. It's their job." Director: Donnell Patrick. Starring: Donatella Versace, Jada Pinkett Smith, Juliette Lewis, Bruce Davison. Movie Release Date - 6-August-2010 (USA) For the second time in less than a week, an American soldier died in Iraq. Officials said they were investigating the death of the 26-year-old soldier who was killed yesterday in Baghdad during combat operations against insurgents. He died after being hit by small arms fire while on patrol in western Baghdad. Another officer was wounded by automatic weapons fire in the same incident. His name was not released. The soldier was assigned to the First Brigade Combat Team of the First Cavalry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas. His father had told the Associated Press his son was a good soldier. "He had his share of fights, but all in all he's a good kid," said the father, who asked not to have his name used. "He never had any real trouble with anyone." The son is one of six U.S. soldiers who have died in Iraq since April 30 when President Bush declared an end to major combat in Iraq even though more than 100 U.S. soldiers have lost their lives each month on average since then. Almost 1,900 U.S. troops have died in the 2-year-old war. The soldier killed yesterday was the eighth member of the 1st Cavalry Division to be killed in Iraq since President Bush declared an end to major combat operations on May 1, 2003. Eight have died this year alone. The soldier's death brings to 684 the number of soldiers who have died since the beginning of the Iraq War in March 2003 according to an Associated Press count. cfa1e77820
